Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT®)—offered through the NeuroTrauma Institute at Multi-Specialty—assesses a patient’s cognitive function immediately following a suspected closed head injury.

A closed head injury is a trauma that occurs when a patient suffers a blow to the head or a violent motion knocking the brain against the skull (e.g., traumatic brain injury [TBI], concussion, post-concussion syndrome). Common causes include motor vehicle accidents (MVA), sports-related accidents and falls.

ImPACT is an FDA-approved software that effectively:

  • Measures symptoms, verbal/visual memory, processing speed and reaction time (to a 1/100th of a second)
  • Provides reliable baseline test information
  • Stores data from repeat resting for future comparison
  • Tests individuals or groups online

ImPACT is an important tool that both evaluates and helps to ensure the right treatment is administered following a closed head injury. Other purposes include:

  • Being a part of corporate wellness initiatives
  • Helping patients, providers and employers make post-injury job accommodation decisions
  • Making return-to-work decisions
